In April 2019, I embarked on a memorable journey to Jaipur, Rajasthan, accompanied by my dear friend and Berlin-based photographer, Caroline Saage. The purpose of our trip was to create an innovative photo campaign that would capture the essence of our best-selling collection, produced in collaboration with the talented weavers of the village.

We ventured to the village of Dheeroda, a two-hour drive from Jaipur, where approximately 400 villagers exclusively work on crafting our rugs. The rugs we used for the shoot were all meticulously handcrafted in this very village, making it an even more meaningful experience to showcase them in their place of origin.

The campaign, which we fondly referred to as KingsRobe, derived its name from the way we elegantly draped the rugs around our shoulders, resembling the regal attire of kings. These rugs, sourced from our best-selling designs, were a testament to the exceptional skills and craftsmanship of the weavers in this particular village.

As we arrived in Dheeroda, the village exuded an enchanting atmosphere, with its serene surroundings serving as the perfect backdrop for our photoshoot. Stripping off our shirts, we enveloped ourselves in the rugs, embodying the regality and beauty they represented. The weavers, who had poured their heart and soul into creating these masterpieces, were delighted to see their creations showcased in such a unique way.

Amidst the challenging weather conditions, with temperatures soaring to a staggering 47 degrees Celsius, we persevered in capturing the essence of these rugs. It was a test of endurance, both for us as models and for the weavers who had created these remarkable pieces. We overcame the obstacles, ensuring that our photoshoot portrayed the true beauty and artistry of the rugs.

The joy and excitement we brought to the village that day were immeasurable. The weavers clapped their hands in appreciation, filled with gratitude for the opportunity to showcase their exceptional craftsmanship to the world. The campaign not only showcased the rugs but also shed light on the incredible talent and dedication of the weavers, further establishing the village as a hub for exquisite rug production.

As we left Dheeroda, we carried with us not only the memories of the photo shoot but also the deep connection we had forged with the weavers and the village.
